What is the measure of a small celebration?
Centennial Celebrations across the world came in all shapes and sizes. Some were very small, like the one in Georgetown, Guyana, but impact cannot always be measured in size of attendance. The Queenstown Church of the Nazarene organized a community outreach the day before Centennial Sunday. Two new children attended, but no one can minimize the value of children added to a Sunday School class. (Slideshow)

As Nazarenes around the world were celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Church of the Nazarene, Kenyan Nazarenes were not left out. In addition to resources supplied and translated by the global Church of the Nazarene, some original compositions were created just for Kenyans. (Slideshow)

Mozambique Nazarenes meet for assemblies and honor missionaries Hugh and Evelyn Friberg
On Sunday, January 18, the Maputo and Matola districts combined for an ordination service at Maputo Central Church of the Nazarene. A special feature of the service was the visit of Hugh and Evelyn Friberg, who began their missionary service on the Africa continent in Lourenco Marques, Mozambique, in 1974. (Slideshow)

Russian youth hold children's benefit concert
Approximately 100 kilometers from Volgograd, Russia, in the small town of Nizhniy Chir, a crumbling boarding school for students with significant medical conditions is struggling to fulfill its purpose. To meet this need, young people at two Nazarene churches in Volgograd combined their resources in December to raise the 500,000 rubles needed for repairs on the medical portion of the building. Radio and TV: Helping pioneer the work in far eastern Peru
Peruvian national missionary Freddy Zapata and his family are sharing Christ in the far eastern Madre de Dios Province of Peru. "In the beginning," says Zapata, "the work was very hard, but God is always faithful. We soon had a few new believers and started producing a radio program on a very prestigious FM radio here in Puerto Maldonado ... Each week, more people are coming to the Church of the Nazarene and they call us directly at Channel 47."

JESUS Film Harvest Partners global teams report nine million new believers
Currently around the world, 9,018,540 individuals have been introduced to the love of God through JESUS Film Harvest Partners ministry teams. Over the last 11 years, team members have shared thousands of stories of triumph from across the globe. These stories tell of answers to decade-old prayers, freedom from witchcraft, understanding the love of Christ, salvation following persecution, release from addictions, and hope to the dying, among many others.

Arkansas Nazarenes recovering from devastating winter storms
During the last week of January, winter storms blanketed U.S. cities and towns from Texas to Maine. According to Nazarene Disaster Response, Arkansas is dealing with the worst ice storm on record. Although clean-up is in process, some residents may not regain power until the end of February and a water boil order remains for several communities.

The Church of the Nazarene joins in the celebration of Black History Month by honoring the contribution of Black leaders in our movement. Clergy Development has put together several resources for congregations and pastoral leaders, featuring phone interviews with six prominent Black leaders in the U.S.

Over the years, congregations in the Church of the Nazarene have observed NYI's Youth Week by holding a variety of creative events. This year, more than just an "annual obligation," the NYI Office wants Youth Week to be a week that will launch the local church into an inter-generational ministry, joining the elderly and youth hand-in-hand for the cause of Christ.

Two WNZR student staffers honored in national broadcast competition
Mount Vernon Nazarene University broadcasting students Beth Wagner and James Mummert will be honored this weekend at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, for their participation in the 2009 Intercollegiate National Religious Broadcasters student competition. This is the third consecutive year MVNU students have placed nationally.

Positive student experience reflected in NNU's spring enrollment
Last fall, Northwest Nazarene University recorded an all-time high in student enrollment. Today, NNU reports spring enrollment numbers showing significant retention rates for undergraduate students as well as steady growth in graduate and continuing education programs.

NNU counseling programs receive rave reviews from acreditors
Northwest Nazarene University proudly announces the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, a specialized accrediting body, reaffirmed NNU's accreditation of its graduate program in counseling. The community counseling, school counseling, and marital, couple, and family counseling/therapy programs were found to satisfy the high standards of the council.

SNU's '88-'89 National Title team reunites
At halftime of last Saturday night's Southern Nazarene University-Oklahoma City University basketball doubleheader, SNU honored the 20-year anniversary of the women's basketball program's first ever NAIA National Championship. The 1988-89 SNU women's team started what proved to be an avalanche of women's basketball dominance with an incredible 36-2 record and a run to the 1989 National Championship.
